Anja Levar's entry into the world of karting began with her father, who first introduced her to motorsports through dirt biking at the age of eight. After several years, her younger brother Jure began karting, and his enthusiasm inspired her to make the switch. "One day, I just said to myself, 'Okay, let’s try it'". After a year of dedicated training, she found herself ready to compete in her first karting race, marking the start of her racing journey.
In 2022, Anja reached a significant milestone when she represented Slovenia at the Rotax Grand Finals in the junior E20 category. This year, she will return to the finals, this time as a senior competitor—an achievement that highlights her continuous progression in the sport.
When it comes to staying mentally strong in such a competitive environment, Anja remains persistent. "I would say, maybe I'm foolish for still trying, but then I think, what if it goes right one day?" It’s this mindset that keeps her focused, motivated, and determined to improve, race after race. Anja remains committed to pushing her limits, always aiming for that moment of victory.
As a woman in motorsports, Anja has faced unique challenges, particularly early in her career. "At first, I had so many problems because I was the only girl, or maybe one of two, on the grid" she reflects. Despite these obstacles, Anja is unwavering in her belief that the racetrack is a level playing field. "You're not just competing for yourself, but you're showing every young girl out there that they belong here too." Her dedication to representation in the sport is as strong as her commitment to her own racing career.
Looking ahead, Anja’s immediate focus is on competing in the Rotax Euro Trophy and continuing to push her performance in karting. Long term, she aspires to transition to formula racing. "I’ve been invited to the Formula 4 Academy, and if everything goes well, I’ll start next year" she explains, a clear indicator of her growing success.
Outside of the racing world, Anja leads an active lifestyle, whether she’s training in the gym, running through Slovenia’s scenic forests, or riding dirt bikes with her family. These activities help her stay physically and mentally fit for the demands of motorsport.
To young girls and women aspiring to enter the sport, Anja offers heartfelt advice: "Keep pushing and keep going, because the world is yours, and you can do whatever you want. Don’t let anyone put you down."
Anja’s determination, resilience, and dedication not only drive her forward in her own career but also serve as an inspiration for the next generation of female racers. As she continues to pursue her goals, Anja remains focused on both personal growth and the broader mission of showing that women belong in every aspect of motorsport.
