For Chiara Magna, motorsports isn’t just a career—it’s a way of life. As a pit reporter and journalist for the Campionato Italiano Velocità (CIV), Chiara has spent over a decade at the heart of Italy’s premier motorcycle racing series. From pre-race paddock preparation to live commentary during red-flag situations, her journey in motorsports journalism is as dynamic and unpredictable as the races themselves.
Chiara’s love for motorsports was sparked at an early age, thanks to her father’s enthusiasm. “Sundays were a regular date on the sofa with MotoGP or Formula 1” she recalls. However, her professional career began in communication, hosting events and TV Programs.
Her transition to motorsports reporting, however, came unexpectedly. “One day, the Moto Club Spoleto invited me to Mugello. I didn’t realize it would be my first time on the starting grid with headphones and a microphone” she says. That pivotal experience marked the start of a career that has made Chiara a trusted voice in the fast-paced world of motorcycle racing.
As a pit reporter, Chiara’s role goes far beyond what viewers see on race day. “I arrive at the circuit on Thursday morning” she explains. “The paddock is nearly set up, and I spend the day connecting with riders and team managers to understand the mood, challenges, and news.”
Her weekend schedule is packed, with responsibilities spanning live interviews, press conferences, and real-time updates across six CIV classes, including the Women’s CIV. “It’s a packed schedule—long hours, unpredictable weather, and constant movement. The job demands focus and adaptability, but Chiara thrives in the high-energy environment.
One of the most intense parts of her job involves handling red-flag situations when races are paused due to accidents or weather. “The race may be paused, but the broadcast continues. Interviews from the pitlane become essential to give fans insight into what’s happening” she shares. “It’s a moment of high energy that really pushes you to stay sharp.”
Over the years, Chiara has seen a noticeable increase in the number of women in the paddock. “When I started, there were far fewer women” she says. “Today, we see female mechanics, telemeters, team managers, and even championships dedicated to women. It’s an incredible step forward.”
Chiara feels fortunate to work in a supportive environment. “I haven’t faced discrimination. I work with a group of men, and if challenges arise, we support each other,” she says. However, she recognizes the importance of greater visibility for women in motorsports, as representation continues to grow.
For Chiara, the essence of motorsports journalism is about more than reporting results—it’s about telling stories. “Our job is to share the stories, the emotions, and the facts for those who can’t be at the track” she explains. Whether it’s capturing the excitement of a new champion or the tension of an interrupted race, her work brings the sport’s human side to life alongside the competition.
She sees herself as a bridge between the action on the circuit and the fans at home, ensuring that the energy and emotion of race day reach every viewer. “It’s a big responsibility, but it’s essential for connecting fans to the sport.”
For young women aspiring to work in motorsports, Chiara emphasizes the value of practical experience. “Start by coming to the circuit, connecting with teams, and gaining practical experience alongside theoretical knowledge,” she advises. Above all, she stresses the importance of persistence: “With strong passion, anything is possible.”
Looking ahead, Chiara dreams of one day stepping into the MotoGP paddock as an insider. With her experience, expertise, and unwavering passion, it’s a goal that feels within reach.
Chiara Magna’s story is one of resilience, energy, and a love for motorsports that began on her family sofa and carried her to the heart of Italian motorcycle racing.
